Shopping in Ubud, Bali

As with most tourist places, there was lots of shopping. There were a number of alleys behind the main streets with lots stuff to buy. This place was better than the usual as there was less tat and more local art which was nice to see.

That's the end of our Bali trip. I'll be back to work on Monday. I have a few exams then another week off. I'm not sure we'll be going away. I really need to get cracking on my masters which will be completed by August. i think the next trip away won't be until May.

The food in Ubud, Bali

As with most places we go, the food has been excellent. We stayed by two 'all you can eat' vegan restaurants which we went to every day for lunch and whenever we went anywhere else in the evening, the food was still really good. For me it was the best place I've been for veggie food. Below are a few pictures. I wish I'd taken more.

Monkeys in Ubud, Bali

As I mentioned before, there are lots of wild monkeys in Ubud. Our hotel was a few hundred meters from the monkey forest. The monkeys are all over town and are constantly stealing stuff from the tourists. There okay to watch but most of the time there doing stuff you don't really want to see, like playing with themselves or getting it on.

One day I brought some munchies which were a bit disappointing so I left them on the balcony. Within a few minutes a monkey had arrived and was opening them up and eating them.

There are three bags and he managed to eat two and a half before getting bored. He must have felt pretty sick later that day.

Tegallalang Rice Terrace, Bali

Today we rented a motorbike and went north to the Tegallalang Rice Terrance. This is a UNESCO world heritage site. It was pretty impressive. It basically loads of rice paddies in the side of the mountain. I think the pictures show them much better than I can describe them.

They were quite amazing and set up so all the waters runs into each of them to protect the rice.

Bali Wedding, near Ubud

Today was the day of our friends wedding. It was just outside Ubud town centre at a resort that had been carbved ou5t of hte middle of the jungle and it was crazy humid.

The wedding service was really nice and set with a great view over the cliffs.

There was also some afternoon and evening entertainment with some local dancing and fire dancing.

The food was great too, it was a buffet with lots of nice veggie options.

I'm so glad we were invited. We had a fantastic time and it was a really lovely experience.

Campuhan Ridge Walk, Ubud, Bali

Just to the north of Ubud town centre is a ridge walk which takes you along the top of some hills which give you some nice views of the hills and rice fields.

The hills on each side were quite impressive.

Since we have come for a wedding in Bali, there are a lot of our friends here and we all went for a walk together.

Towards the end of the walk we stopped at one of the restaurants and had some coffee and coconuts. There were some amazing mangoes growing in the trees.

At the end of the ridge there were some really cool rice fields.

It was a very enjoyable day and it was nice to be able to go walking somewhere so beautiful.
